Something Borrowed (movie-2011)

Let me start by saying I love Kate Hudson so my views might be a little bit bias. With that disclaimer out of the way, I loved it. Just to clarify my sister-in-law (who shares a lot of the same opinions as myself on movies) just “liked it” and my husband thought it was a little long.

I think it was a great story about the friendship and being with the one you are meant to be with. Darcie (Hudson) and Rachel (Goodwin-who I also like) are childhood best friends. When quit Rachel accidentally sets up the love of her life with her best friend while in law school. Of course Darcie is the pretty one that gets everything and Rachel is the sweet girl that (almost) always puts her friends first.
I did not read this book so I can’t tell you if “the movie ruined the book” or if “the movie did the book justice” but I can tell you I liked this movie. If you go to the movies to see it you might want to make it a girls night, instead of date night.

You can visit the movie website at http://somethingborrowedmovie.warnerbros.com/ for the trailer.

PS- Jim from the office (John Krasinski) is in the movie too. You guessed it, I like him too.

Thor (2011)

I had zero expectations on this movie. It was not on my must see list but since I always get to pick the movies I let my husband pick this one. It was actually not that bad. About a B-/C+ worth seeing but you can rent it, unless you have to have the 3D experience.

For those of you who did not read the comic or watch the trailer or even recall seeing a preview, this movie can best be described as Super Hero meets Roman God to form Thor. Thor losses his powers is banished to Earth. Being from Earth it seems a little harsh that this is the ultimate punishment, but I guess if I had “god like powers,” being mortal and sent to Earth would not be cool.

The thing that impressed me the most was most of the cast was little known actors (Natlie Portman excluded of course). I think we will see more of Chris Hemsworth, who played Thor, in the future.

Pretty in Plaid by Jen Lancaster (book)

I would give this book an overall “C” or “so-so” rating. It had it funny moments not nearly as many as her past books (Bitter is the New Black, Big Lights Fat Ass, and Such a Pretty Fat). This was defiantly my least favorite book by Jen Lancaster. I have not read My Fair Lady or her latest novel, Welcome-If You Were Here.

This book is a look back at childhood, high school, college and getting her first “careers” out of college. Her childhood years and the job search areas were the most entertaining to me. She has unusual love for the Green Girl Scout uniform (not to be mistaking for her strong dislike of the brown brownie one) with the sash and all the patches you could get to show how much you know. It got me thinking, I don’t think my mom ever sewed a single patch on mine. Then again, did I ever get a patch?

I am not recommending that you don’t read this book, but if you are an avid Lancaster reader you might want to lower your expectations a little bit. That came out a bit more harsh then I intended.
